Postcards from Singapore is a collection of portraits and letters from Singapore Gurkha children leaving the country for good.
Having been born and raised in this country they call home, they will have to be repatriated once their fathers – men from Nepal – complete up to three decades of service in the Singapore Gurkha Contingent.
For many of them, the transition will be from first world to third, returning to Nepal, a country with little or no emotional connection to except through their parents.
These portraits and letters are a way for them to seek closure in a chapter of their lives – finding a place that holds dear to them.
And to be photographed there for the very last time.
